Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest of Balearic Islands, and along with its sister islands of Menorca Ibiza and Formentera, lies in the Mediterranean Sea off the east coast of mainland Spain. Flying time from most UK airports is under 3 hours and on arrival local time is +1 hour GMT.

The first recognizable landmark other than the many windmills used to irrigate the land, is the magnificent 14th Century Gothic cathedral of nearby Palma, the sight of which never ceases to impress. The Airport of Son Sant Joan is an impressive modern facility used to dealing with the millions of holidaymakers that visit Mallorca throughout the year. It is located in the south of the island, east of Palma.

Since the onset of tourism in the 1960's, Mallorca has been one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe if not the world. People of all nationalities visit the island to experience the wide range of attractions offered. Everyone is catered for in Mallorca. The island represents a vibrant cultural and artistic society that is far removed from the mass tourism that many people associate with it.

From Michelin star dining to tapas snacks, from seven star hotels to hostels, from the souvenir shops to Mallorca’s art galleries and museums, the island has it all.

The island's population is dwarfed by the ten million visitors the island caters for yearly. With an annual average temperature of 16.1 Celcius and 2900 hours of sunshine it’s no wonder people flock to Mallorca.

Traditional Mallorquian food is well worth trying. Although not as well known as the main lands cuisine it remains wholesome and full of flavour. Sobrasada, Frito Mallorquian, Roast Suckling pig, Arros Brut and Ensaimada are some of the traditional and unique foods that should be sampled. The wines of Mallorca are making a huge impact on the international scene, winning awards and medals with increasing regularity. The well kept secret that island residents have enjoyed for years is out - Mallorcan wine rocks!

Great shopping, art, museums, restaurants, bars, nightlife, sports and sailing are all to be found on Mallorca and to think people only regard Mallorca as an island for sun, sea, sand and Sangria.
